The PODO Lounge serves as an open space that embodies the essence of the PODO Museum, welcoming visitors to immerse themselves in its cultural offerings. Designed by maumstudio, the lounge provides a platform for sharing the museum’s values and facilitating cultural experiences.
Concept Origin
The concept for the PODO Lounge traces back to Jun Itami, the architect behind the PODO Hotel, renowned for its reflection of traditional Jeju architecture. Inspired by the timeless beauty of Jeju houses, the furniture of the PODO Lounge is intricately designed with motifs that pay homage to this heritage.
Design Inspiration
Drawing from Jeju’s windy climate, where roofs are secured with a traditional rope called a “house line,” the furniture of the PODO Lounge captures the elegance of grid-covered roofs. This design approach aims to encapsulate the simplicity and refinement inherent in Jeju’s architectural traditions.
Tranquil Ambiance
The lounge is crafted to evoke a sense of stability and tranquility, mirroring the serene landscapes of Jungchae Island with soft angles and gentle curves. Reflecting the hues of Jeju’s reeds, an acrylic band envelops the furniture, reminiscent of the island’s iconic roofs, while infusing a contemporary aesthetic into the space.
The PODO Museum Lounge stands as a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, inviting visitors to unwind, explore, and engage with cultural narratives in a serene and aesthetically pleasing environment.
