The PILARES initiative, a collaborative effort led by the Secretary of Works and Services of Mexico City, aims to enhance infrastructure for education and culture across various districts of the capital. As part of this initiative, 25 new Innovation, Freedom, Art, Education, and Knowledge (Pilares) centers are being designed and constructed.

Comprehensive Plan Implementation

The initiative encompasses the construction and planning of 274 venues, with significant progress already achieved. Among these, 165 venues have been completed, including 32 new buildings and 133 rehabilitated ones. Additionally, 56 venues are currently under construction, with 41 in the tender process and 12 managed by SECTEI.

La Pulga Project Development

Led by Alberto Kalach’s architecture firm, the “La Pulga” project was conceptualized in the CuauhtĂ©moc delegation. Spanning 1,231 square meters across two levels, the design features a structure of arches in both directions, complemented by sturdy vaulted slabs. Concrete was chosen as the primary material for its durability and practicality, enabling the creation of dynamic spaces with fluid circulations and versatile layouts.

Architectural Elements

The design incorporates visual contrasts, with concrete juxtaposed against black iron stairs and fixed wooden furniture. The lofty ceilings enhance the visual impact of these elements, contributing to the aesthetic appeal of the space while maintaining functionality.

The Pilares La Pulga Innovation and Cultural Center stands as a testament to the commitment to enriching educational and cultural experiences within Mexico City’s communities, providing a platform for learning, creativity, and engagement.
