Nestled within the serene landscapes of Jiangjiawan, Da’anshanpu Town, Zigong, the Red Education Base of Jiang Jie Hometown stands as a tribute to the renowned figure of Jiang Jie, whose roots lie deeply in the heart of Zigong. With a profound connection to its surroundings, this architectural marvel embodies the spirit of Jiang Jie while preserving the essence of its natural setting.
Embracing Tradition
Spanning approximately 270,000 square meters, the project encompasses the restoration of Jiang Jie’s former residence, the revitalization of the Red Plum Statue Square, and the construction of the Jiang Jie Memorial. Retaining the authenticity of the original residence, the memorial is strategically positioned on a low-lying hillside, forming an axis with the former residence atop the mountain, paying homage to the east-facing tradition.
Conceptual Design
Harmoniously integrated with the landscape, the memorial rises layer by layer along the axis, symbolizing growth and resilience. Shaped like a pentagram, the building’s form creates a sight corridor, inviting visitors on a journey of remembrance and reflection. The interplay of light and shadow within the interior spaces evokes a sense of reverence, reminiscent of Zhazidong’s spiritual aura.
Sculpting the Landscape
Employing volume segmentation, the building’s design mimics the rugged contours of red rock, infusing it with a sense of strength and vitality. The use of GRC slab as the surface material further accentuates this symbolism, while prefabrication techniques streamline the construction process, ensuring efficiency without compromising on quality.
Integration with Heritage
From the layout to the choice of materials, every aspect of the design embodies the essence of Jiang Jie’s legacy. As the project nears completion, it becomes a focal point for commemorative activities, serving as a testament to the enduring spirit of Jiang Jie and the values she represents.
In the Red Education Base of Jiang Jie Hometown, SADI has created more than a monument; they have forged a living testament to the cultural heritage of Zigong, preserving the legacy of Jiang Jie for generations to come.
