Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced two new safety features, namely ‘Flash Calls’ and ‘Message Level Reporting,’ designed to enhance security and control for users in India.
Flash Calls for Secure Verification
With the Flash Calls feature, new Android users or those frequently changing devices can now verify their phone numbers via an automated call instead of an SMS. This method, available within the app, offers a safer verification option, as confirmed by WhatsApp.
Message Level Reporting for User Control
The Message Level Reporting feature empowers users to report specific messages received on WhatsApp. By long-pressing a particular message, users can choose to report or block a user, providing greater control over their messaging experience.
Additional Privacy Controls
In addition to safety features, WhatsApp has introduced privacy enhancements, including the ability to hide profile pictures, last seen status, and more from certain contacts. Users also have the option to block bothersome individuals and enable two-step verification (2FA) for added security.
Update for Android Beta Users
WhatsApp has rolled out the 2.21.24.8 update for its Android beta users, hinting at the development of message reaction notifications. This new feature will allow users to react to messages, similar to how they engage with posts and comments on the Facebook app.
Development of Message Reactions
While WhatsApp initially had no plans to notify users of message reactions, the company has been working on this feature for several months. Initially introduced for the beta version of its iOS app, WhatsApp is now extending message reaction notifications to its Android users, further enhancing the messaging experience for its diverse user base.
