WhatsApp is set to launch a new feature aimed at facilitating users’ ability to discover nearby businesses directly from the app. According to reports from WABetaInfo, the upcoming addition will be featured in the search menu as “Businesses Nearby,” enabling users to explore nearby restaurants, grocery stores, clothing outlets, and more.
Introduction by WhatsApp Head
Will Cathcart, the head of WhatsApp at Meta, previously introduced the “Businesses Nearby” feature, highlighting its capability to assist users in locating and contacting local businesses such as coffee shops, florists, and clothing stores within their vicinity.
How Does it Work?
Upon performing a search within WhatsApp, users will notice a new section labeled “Businesses Nearby” alongside their search results. By selecting specific categories like “Restaurants” or “Grocery Stores” from this section, users will receive relevant business account listings based on their current location.
While users can access additional details about these businesses, it remains unclear whether WhatsApp will enable direct ordering through the app. If implemented, such a feature could prove beneficial for both local businesses and users alike.
Rollout Details
Although the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo pertains to the Beta version for Android, iOS users can also anticipate the feature’s availability. However, an exact release date has not been confirmed, as the feature is still in development.
The feature is expected to be integrated into future updates for users leveraging WhatsApp’s Business Directory feature. Presently, the Business Directory is accessible exclusively to users in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with no timeline specified for its broader rollout.
Upon its release, the “Businesses Nearby” feature is poised to streamline users’ ability to discover nearby dining options, grocery stores, clothing outlets, and more, enhancing convenience and accessibility within the WhatsApp platform.
