WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging and voice-over-IP service, is rolling out a new feature that allows beta users to link their accounts to a secondary phone and an Android tablet.

Companion Mode for Secondary Phone Linking

In the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.22.24.18, a feature called Companion Mode has been introduced. This feature enables users to link a secondary phone to their primary WhatsApp account. Users can link up to four Android phones to their primary account and enjoy access to all regular WhatsApp features, including message encryption.

To activate Companion Mode, beta users need to navigate to the options menu on the registration screen and select ‘Link a device’ from the dropdown menu.

Limited Rollout and Future Plans

Currently, the Companion Mode feature is only available to select beta users, with a wider rollout expected in the future. WhatsApp aims to extend this feature to more users with its upcoming updates.

Linking to Android Tablets

Additionally, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android introduces the ability to link to an Android tablet. This feature, also available to some beta testers, can be found in the linked devices beta option within the devices section of the settings menu. The pairing process is straightforward and involves scanning a QR code.

Enhancing User Convenience

Previously, WhatsApp users could access their accounts only on one smartphone, although they could link up to four other devices like laptops and tablets. With the introduction of Companion Mode and linking to Android tablets, users now have the flexibility to log in to one WhatsApp number on two phones, enhancing convenience and usability.

WhatsApp continues to innovate and introduce new features aimed at improving the user experience and expanding functionality for its global user base.
