WhatsApp, one of the leading instant messaging platforms, will cease its support for iPhones running on iOS 10 and iOS 11, including iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C, later this year. This decision was shared via a screenshot by WABetaInfo and an article posted on the WhatsApp Help Center. Moving forward, only iOS 12 and newer versions will be compatible with WhatsApp.

iOS Update Requirement

Users currently using WhatsApp on iOS 10 or iOS 11 are required to update their operating system to iOS 12 in order to continue using the messaging application. While WhatsApp will still be accessible on iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6s, users must ensure their devices are updated to the latest version of iOS. For Android users, WhatsApp requires a minimum operating system of 4.1 or newer.

Discontinuation for iPhone 5 and 5C

Regrettably, WhatsApp will no longer be accessible on iPhone 5 and 5C devices since iOS 12 is incompatible with these models.

Anticipated iOS 16 Announcement

With the WWDC 2022 just a couple of weeks away, speculations are rife regarding Apple’s announcement of iOS 16. Rumors suggest that iOS 16 may discontinue support for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Recent and Upcoming Updates by WhatsApp

In recent times, WhatsApp has introduced a slew of new features and is actively working on several updates.

The company has rolled out emojis reactions and is currently developing rich link previews for status updates. The rich links feature aims to provide viewers with more detailed information about shared links. While some features are presently undergoing testing on the iOS app, they are expected to be made available for Android and desktop users in future updates.
