YouTube TV has announced the rollout of picture-in-picture (PiP) support for its iPhone and iPad app, starting from Thursday.
PiP Feature for iOS Devices
In a tweet, YouTube TV shared the news, stating that picture-in-picture functionality is now available for iOS 15+ devices. Users can select a video to watch and then swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to the device’s homepage. The video will scale down and move across the screen, allowing users to multitask while continuing to watch.
Limited Availability
However, it’s important to note that picture-in-picture support is not yet universally available for all mobile users of the YouTube application. The company expressed gratitude for users’ patience during the development process and hopes that they will enjoy this new feature.
Enhanced Multitasking Experience
Picture-in-picture makes watching videos more convenient as users can multitask on their iPhone or iPad while continuing to watch content. The feature enables the video to remain on the screen in a minimized player with focused playback controls.
Testing for YouTube Premium Subscribers
Google has also been conducting tests for picture-in-picture functionality for standard YouTube content with its premium subscribers. However, this feature has not been rolled out beyond those who have a subscription.
With picture-in-picture support, YouTube TV aims to enhance the viewing experience for iOS users, providing them with greater flexibility and convenience while streaming content on their mobile devices.
