Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is in the process of developing a new feature that could enable users to share voice notes as part of their status updates.
Feature Under Development
According to reports from WABetaInfo, this feature is currently in the development stage and is not yet available for beta users. The platform is looking to enhance the functionality of status updates by integrating support for voice notes.
Voice Status
When implemented, a voice note shared as a status update may be referred to as “voice status.” This update will allow users to share voice notes with select individuals chosen within their status privacy settings. Similar to images and videos shared in statuses, voice notes will also be end-to-end encrypted.
React to Messages with Any Emoji
In addition to the voice status update feature, WhatsApp recently announced a new functionality that permits users to react to messages using any emoji of their choice. Presently, users have access to a limited selection of six emojis for reactions. However, with the new update, users will have the freedom to react with any emoji available.
Future Updates
CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted at some of the emojis that could be included, such as a robot, french fries, and surfing in the sea. Moreover, reports suggest that WhatsApp is considering introducing a feature that will enable iOS users to hide their online status from all contacts.
Enhanced Privacy Controls
Currently, WhatsApp users can choose to display their “Last Seen” information to specific contacts or no one at all. With the anticipated update, users may have similar control over their online status visibility.
As WhatsApp continues to innovate and introduce new features, these updates aim to enrich user experience and provide enhanced privacy controls for users across different platforms.
